Life Preserver Faith Causes You To Rise To The Top

Life preserver faith is faith that God has designed to keep you above and not beneath. It causes you to be the head and not the tail. It gives you victory in every situation of life.

faith comes by hearing

One of my many assignments within the field of Law Enforcement was Sea Marshal. Sea Marshal and Sky Marshal teams were created as a result of the 9/11 tragedy in New York.

Our sister teams of Sky Marshals were assigned to fly on specified airplanes post 9/11 and Sea Marshals were assigned the less glamorous duty of riding on cruise ships. Most people have heard of the Sky Marshal program but few people know that Sea Marshal teams existed as well. I worked on the Sea Marshal detail for 2 years from 2001-2003.

Now, when the topic of vacations comes up, specifically cruising vacations, I jokingly add to the conversation that I’ve been on 347 cruises. After the person picks their jaw up off the floor I usually let on that cruising was my job for 2 years. Anyway, I digress…

A prerequisite to holding the position of Sea Marshal was the ability to become a proficient swimmer. I had to take swimming lessons in order to qualify as a Sea Marshal.

Although I’m still not fond of swimming, as I look back on my swim classes, I can say that the one major principle that I learned was to relax in the water. Most people who drown do so from panic. If they would only relax, most tragic losses due to drowning could be avoided.

The Body’s Natural Life Preservers

Our bodies have built-in life preservers. They are called lungs. As long as there is air in our lungs, we will rise to the top of a pool of water. Nothing containing air can remain at the bottom of a body of water….all things being equal.

The Word of God Is Our Spiritual Life Preserver

Likewise in a spiritual sense, God has given us His Word to use as a “life preserver” here on earth. Anyone who dares to take the time to plant God’s Word deep in their spirit and hold on to it in the midst of crisis will rise to the top.

No matter where you’re shipwrecked, technically speaking, you can hold on to a life preserver forever. Your life preserver will never become waterlogged, soggy, and stop holding you above water.

However, what happens all too often in the natural world is that people get tired. They begin to get fatigued and eventually let go of their life preserver. And when the rescue team arrives, they find no survivors. All they find is the life preserver, still floating above the water. Still doing its job. The life preserver didn’t fail. It never wavered. It was prepared to hold you up as long as you needed it to. But fatigue sets in and we let go of our only source of salvation.

Question: Have you taken the time to strengthen yourself in God’s Word to be able to hold on to it until the rescue team arrives?

I’d like to encourage you today to hold on to God’s Word. It doesn’t matter what you see that’s trying to rob you of your faith. It doesn’t matter what the doctor or those who are supposedly “in the know” say.

God’s Word is truth. All facts must eventually bow down to the truth. Hold on to the truth. Hold on to your life preserver as if your very life depended on it. Because it does.
