Do You Believe Jesus is the Answer?

Do you believe you’re a Christian? Do you believe you have eternal life? Do you believe in divine healing? Do you believe that Jesus died for your sin? Do you believe the bible? Do you believe what you say you believe? Do you really know what you believe?

My Bad Example

[pullquote]Believing that Jesus is the answer to the world’s problems carries with it much responsibility. It’s far worse to have the answer and not share it than never to have had the answer at all.[/pullquote]

faith comes by hearing

I spent one afternoon in the kitchen years ago making BBQ chicken with my son Jonathan, then 5 years old. Upon taking the chicken out of the oven, I slathered (if there is such a word) tons of BBQ sauce on my creation as the finishing touch. Not wanting to see any of the precious sauce go to waste, I licked the knife clean which was my normal practice. Normal, that is until a looked behind me just in time to catch my 5 years old about to lick the blade of a second BBQ sauce covered knife. I haven’t licked another knife since then.

Love Moves You To Take Action

What if you knew that a bridge up ahead was out and no one was around to warn passersby? What if you could hear the tires screeching and the cries of anguish and no one was around but you to warn unassuming drivers who were plummeting to their deaths up ahead. What would you do? Carrying the scenario a little further, what if your friends, relatives, and loved ones were driving right past you and plummeting to their doom? Would seeing the annihilation of your loved ones be enough to get you to take urgent action on their behalf?

Belief Should Inspired Action

My wife and I went out to dinner with another couple a few weekends ago. We love spending time with Raul and Monica and this time was no exception. Monica had been very sick but she mustered up enough strength to meet us on this night. She looked tired and worn out, and coughed continuously during dinner. We ate, enjoyed one another’s company, and then said our goodbyes. Not one time while the four of us were together did I think about leading us in prayer for Monica’s healing. Not one time did I think about the healing power of God, which I claim to believe in, healing her on the spot. So again I ask (myself included), exactly what do we believe?

Do You Believe Christ Is the Solution?

People in our field of influence are dying and going to a Christ-less eternity daily. People are sick. People are in need. If we think we have the answer to the needs of those that surround us, shouldn’t sharing the solution to the problem be more of a natural response? There are no do-overs in life. This is the only earthly life that we have. If we believe what we claim to believe, maybe we should begin living with a little more urgency in helping those we come into contact with. I’m not saying that we should all run out and begin preaching on street corners. Those of you who know me know that that’s not my style. What I’m saying is that maybe we should start living our lives with sensitivity, knowing that with everything we do, everything we say, and everywhere we go, someone, somewhere is watching us. Someone somewhere needs the answers to life which we claim to have. Even those who don’t know they need answers are watching us and waiting for us to give them a reason to believe.

Just as Jonathan saw me licking the blade of a knife and attempted to mimic me, others are watching us and will be attracted to us as God meets the world’s needs through us. And if we say we have the answer to the world’s predicament, it seems that more of an attempt could be made on our part to jump out of our cars and wave down the drivers who are heading to inevitable doom.

Believing that Jesus is the answer to the world’s problems carries with it much responsibility. It’s far worse to have the answer and not share it than never to have had the answer at all.
